Halifax and other Nova Scotia ports will host a number of tall ships again next year.

Waterfront Development says the ships will stay in Halifax from July 19 to 23, and other ports from July 24 to 30.

Tall ship stops:

  • Halifax
  • Port Hawkesbury
  • Louisbourg
  • Sydney
  • Lunenburg
  • Shelburne
  • Yarmouth
  • Pictou
  • Pugwash

The event is part of the Tall Ships Challenge-Atlantic Coast 2012 Race. The vessels will leave Georgia and race up the U.S. eastern seaboard.

The festivities in Halifax will include a commemoration of the War of 1812.

The Nova Scotia government is spending $780,000 on the event.

The province says the last gathering in 2009 attracted more than 94,000 tourists and generated $32.8 million in economic spinoffs.
