Strip-search complaint still under investigation
An investigation into a complaint laid in July regarding a strip search at the RCMP detachment in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., is still ongoing.
Patricia Bernard alleges that on May 26 she was strip searched three times by a female officer with male officers present.
"At this point in time, the RCMP has received a public complaint regarding this matter," RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Brigdit Leger said Tuesday.
Once a complaint is laid, an investigation is conducted by a member of the RCMP, either from a neighbouring detachment or from outside the area, depending on which situation is most appropriate, said Leger.
"It's impossible to predict the amount of time these types of investigations will take, but it's still ongoing. It's still a very active investigation," she said.
Bernard was taken to the Port Hawkesbury detachment following a drug raid at her home.
She was not charged, but her partner was arrested. Police said marijuana plants were seized.
Four officers are named in Bernard's complaint.
