West Richmond Education Centre will close in June as originally planned despite efforts to save it.
The Strait Regional School Board made the decision Wednesday night, by a vote of seven to four.
Board member and West Richmond representative Lian Sampson had put forward a motion to reverse the board's original decision to close the school.
A group of concerned parents - including Raylene MacGhee - also made a pitch at the board meeting to keep the school open by turning it into a community hub school.
"We presented a few different opportunities," she said. "But unfortunately they didn’t see the future in it."
MacGhee said she wasn’t surprised that they couldn’t reverse the decision.
"My kids actually expected it to close, although we have been hopeful, we knew what our chances were."
The original decision to close the school was made in March of 2012.
