Customers that were left out of pocket for prepaid orders through a Yarmouth, N.S., furniture store that went out of business last week will be taken care of, says the store's largest creditor.

After more than 90 years in business, Roger's Brandsource went into receivership.

Many customers who paid hundreds or thousands of dollars in advance on furniture orders were worried about what would happen to their money.

But Michael Vancura, the executive vice-president of retail operations for Mega Group, said customers will be taken care of.

"If your product is in the warehouse, there's not a reimbursement, we'll just make sure that that product is made available for you to pick it up or arrange for delivery. If your product is not on the premises but you made a deposit, we'll reimburse the deposit," he said.

Rogers Furniture owes close to $500,000 to the single secured creditor, Mega Group. The Saskatchewan-based group has seized all of the store's assets.

On March 1, Rosalie Harris of Port Maitland went looking for a washer and dryer at Roger’s Furniture.

“Shopping around, [it was the] first place we went, and it was a really good price. With tax, $860,” she said.

Harris paid for her appliances in full, with delivery promised in three weeks.

But on March 13, Roger's Furniture went into receivership.

Since then, she's been unable to contact anyone at the store.

“That kind of money doesn't grow on trees around here and I would hate to think I would have to go pay that or probably more for another set,” Harris said.

Roger's Furniture has been a fixture on Main Street in Yarmouth since 1919.
