Police are looking for information after what appears to be a deliberately set fire on a Dartmouth playground Monday evening.

At around 5:15 p.m. on Monday Halifax police and fire crews were dispatched to a Dartmouth playground near the Alderney ferry terminal to extinguish a wooden playground boat that suffered extensive damage.

Police believe that the fire was deliberately set, said Staff Sgt. Lindsay Hernden in a news release.

Hernden said several witnesses have told police that a group of teens were seen fleeing from the area — four boys and one girl — just after the fire started. Witnesses said the teens appeared to be between 16 and 17 years old.

Officers searched the area and quickly located a group of teens fitting the description provided by witnesses. They were questioned and released.

Police are asking anyone with information about the fire to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
