Tyrone David will be sentenced next month on one count of breach of trust and nine drug-related charges. (CBC)The sentencing of a former sheriff's deputy on drug charges will be delayed until next month due to a clerical error.
Tyrone David, 43, will be sentenced Feb. 13 on one count of breach of trust and nine drug-related charges. He pleaded guilty to the charges in October.
David was arrested more than three years ago at Dartmouth provincial court after Halifax Regional Police saw a young woman pass an envelope to a uniformed sheriff's deputy in a parking lot on Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.
The envelope contained hash, heroin and amphetamines.
Halifax Regional Police said the drugs were destined for the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside.
Sources told CBC News the woman allegedly involved in the drug trade — Kathleen Kierans — was the girlfriend of Jimmy Melvin Jr., a well-known crime figure who was in custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility at the time.
Kierans, who was charged with multiple counts of trafficking, died of an apparent overdose in July 2011 while she was awaiting trial.
