Skaters enjoy the Emera Oval on the Halifax Common in winter 2011. (CBC)Halifax families keen to strap on skates and hit the ice outdoors together are in for a nice Christmas surprise — the Emera Oval is set to open in the afternoon.
Amid much uncertainty about weather conditions, the city has confirmed on its skating calendar that ice maintenance at the oval will begin at 1 p.m., with public skating welcoming all at 2 p.m.
Rain and mild weather had thrown the oval's official opening into doubt.
The public skate will last until 4 p.m. Skating enthusiasts are encouraged to check out the rink's online schedule before they set out.
