Investigators spent hours combing through the trailer on Wednesday. (CBC)A man from Hilden is appearing in a Truro courtroom Thursday to face charges in connection to a methamphetamine lab discovered in Salmon River.
Lance Gordon Phillips was arrested Tuesday night. Police said the 26-year-old was renting a trailer that was the subject of a search.
Police shut down Matheson Drive for several hours Wednesday as they dismantled the lab. Officers in HAZMAT suits combed through the property.
Investigators said they found chemicals, equipment and residue of unidentified substances in the house. All those items are related to the production of meth, police said. Officials have sent samples of the residue to Health Canada so it can be analyzed.
The site was cleared around 1 a.m. Thursday morning.
During the search, police said they found a 12-gauge shotgun and loose ammunition in a vehicle.
Phillips faces several charges including:
- Unlawful posession of chemicals known to produce a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
- Unlawfully producing a substance (methamphetamine)
- Weapons charges
Police said this is the first time a meth lab has been discovered in the province.
