The provincial government is spending $2.2 million to help families who were devastated by flooding three months ago.
Heavy rains caused rivers in Colchester and Pictou Counties to swell, and flooded many homes.
Charlie Parker, the MLA for Pictou West, announced the plan Friday. It will provide up to $80,000 for homeowners and small business owners. Not-for-profit organizations can apply for up to $200,000.
In Mt. Thom, Stewart Cornelius has yet to make any repairs at his home after half his driveway was washed away.
Homeowners can receive up to $80,000 to pay for the damage. (CBC)"We're looking forward to getting some work done," he said. "The space that we have to go across is getting smaller and smaller as the driveway continues to be undercut. There's asphalt there, but no ground underneath it."
Because of the damage, Cornelius and his wife have to carry buckets of heating oil to their oil tank. They plan to fill out their application for funding this weekend, and hope to get their driveway fixed as soon as possible.
The deadline to apply for funding is February 8.
