A group of teenaged boys at MacLennan Jr. High School are sporting shaved heads this winter. The latest hair trend is in support of 14-year-old Chris Lewis, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma a few months ago.
"He always had long hair," said his friend, Gregor MacDougall. "He never liked cutting his hair short, and when he had to shave his head bald, we didn't want him feeling like and outcast, so we all shaved our heads."
The room full of short hair has gone a long way to make Lewis feel better.
"It kind of makes me feel I don't have to do it alone," said Lewis.
Chris Lewis says he can't believe how his school has supported him since his cancer diagnosis. The school in Westmount is also doing its part. Through fundraisers, they've raised $1,000 to help Lewis' family cover costs as he's treated at the IWK in Halifax.
"We were overwhelmed with the school, with the amount of generosity the students started to support Chris and his family at this difficult time," said Joe Bellefontaine, a teacher at the school.
"It's great that the whole school is actually doing this, we thought only of couple of people would support him, but the whole school did it," said Josh Peters, a grade nine student.
"Thank you to everybody," said Lewis. "I just can't thank them enough."
