Shoppers at Dollarama in Bayer's Lake had a shock Thursday afternoon when a car smashed through the front window of the store.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m.

The driver of the car, who Halifax Regional Police said was a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The smashed glass created quite a mess, according to the CBC's Catharine Tunney. Despite the accident, people continued to shop in the store.

The car remained lodged in the front entrance at least 45 minutes after the crash.
