A 45-year-old man is facing several charges after a car crashed into a house on Herring Cove Road, knocking an addition off the side of the building.

Miranda Bostock said a loud noise woke her up on Wednesday morning, just after 8:30 a.m.

"I ran to the bathroom because that's where I thought it came from and my shower was a little off-kilter. So I ran to the front window and I looked down and there was a car there," she told CBC News.

"I thought it was wind or something."

No one was injured.

A Chevrolet was wedged under the shower, which used to stick out the side of the building at 496 Herring Cove Rd. Crews took the addition off to free the car.

"Now that it's been severed off we had a bunch of plumbing lines we had to get closed off so that we wouldn't lose water," said Matthew Hennigar, who owns the building.

"We know that there are no black marks, no brake marks so it looks like he drifted right on into it."

Halifax Regional Police said it appears the car left the road and hit a pole before coming to a stop underneath the house. The driver fled the scene.

Police later arrested a 45-year-old man. He faces charges of driving while suspended, leaving the scene of an accident, and multiple breaches of court orders. The man will remain in custody Wednesday night and is scheduled to appear in provincial court Thursday morning.

The car was not stolen, said police.

Hennigar said the house has been hit by lightning before, but never by a car.

"I guess lightning doesn't strike twice but maybe a car will," he said.
