Police seized the drug known as bath salts at two Pictou County locations. (CBC)RCMP in Pictou County have arrested five people on drug charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking of a dangerous drug known as bath salts.
At around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Pictou Landing Road and arrested a 48-year-old man and a 44-year-old man, both from Eureka.
A 41-year-old woman from Pictou Landing was also arrested and police seized a quantity of bath salts, marijuana and hydromorphone contin.
The next morning at 4:30 a.m., police executed a search warrant at a residence on East River West Side Road in Eureka. A 32-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman from Eureka were arrested after police seized more bath salts.
Bath salts are comparable to a mix of cocaine and amphetamine. It's a long-lasting street drug that produces extreme euphoria. When that feeling disappears, the user craves more. Taking them can result in serious consequences, including death.
Three of the five arrested have been released from custody and will appear in court in Pictou County on Jan. 28. Another is expected to appear in court Wednesday while the fifth was released with no charges.
