David James Leblanc did not speak during his court appearance Tuesday. (CBC)David James Leblanc was back in a Bridgewater courtroom Tuesday, but the court appearance was quickly set over.
Leblanc is accused of sexually assaulting and chaining up a 16-year-old boy in Upper Chelsea, N.S.
Leblanc limped into the courtroom Tuesday, wearing camouflage pants and a wine coloured shirt. The CBC's Phonse Jessome said he looked around the room but said nothing.
The appearance was short, as Legal Aid lawyer Barry Whynott announced he was in conflict of interest and cannot represent Leblanc in the case. Whynott would not specify the conflict.
Legal Aid will now hire a private lawyer to take on the case.
Leblanc will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Nov. 14. It's scheduled to be a bail hearing.
Leblanc faces several charges including forcible confinement, sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, and kidnapping. He is also accused of administering a noxious substance, uttering a death threat and breach of an undertaking.
He was arrested in Thunder Bay, Ont. in October after a national manhunt.
The other suspect in the case, Wayne Alan Cunningham, was found dead nearby. The police said they don't suspect foul play in Cunningham's death.
