A rescued dog that was brought to a Dartmouth, N.S., shelter after being shot in the head with 50 pellets has been adopted.

After several surgeries and countless adoption offers, Buck has a new home with the Howell family in Lantz.

Despite being blind in one eye as a result of the pellets, shelter officals say Buck the dog did not lose his love of people.

"I talked to people from as far away as British Columbia, Ottawa, Thunder Bay," said Darrold Gould, executive director for Bide Awhile animal shelter. He said their priority was to find Buck a good family who would keep him long term.

"We wanted to be careful it wasn't just somebody who was feeling sorry for Buck. We wanted to make sure we got him a good home and right now I'm fairly happy that we did."

Mike and Trina Howell said Buck has fit in with their family, including their other dog. But one member of the family isn't welcoming Buck with open arms – the Howell's cat.
