Mike Savage meets with Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly (Sabrina Fabian/CBC)Mayor Peter Kelly has begun the process of handing over the reins at Halifax City Hall to Mike Savage.
The former Dartmouth-Cole Harbour MP won a landslide victory over the weekend beating out five rivals for the mayor's job.
Savage said people will notice a change at city council when he takes charge.
He said that's one of the messages voters sent on election night, despite the re-election of 13 of the 16 members of the current council.
"The issue of change wasn't as predominant as those who thought it was, but still there is the opportunity for a fresh look, a fresh approach and with a new mayor and the new council I'm sure they'll be going in that direction," said Kelly.
The mayor said he's not having any second thoughts about his decision to get out of politics.
The official transfer of power will take place when the new council and mayor-elect are sworn in two weeks.
Savage said he will use his first days in office to meet with councillors and establish new priorities
