A 68-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being knocked from his motorized wheelchair by a moving truck in Halifax.

The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, as the truck was trying to turn a corner. The wheelchair user was crossing the street at the time but the truck driver did not see him.

"Unfortunately the truck struck this individual, knocking him to the ground," said Halifax Regional Police Sgt. Greg Robertson. "He was taken to the QEII with serious but non-life threatening injuries."

Robertson said it appears that another car was blocking the truck driver's view of the wheelchair just before the accident happened.

"The 43-year-old driver was issued a ticket under the motor vehicle act for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk," said Robertson.
