Hundreds of people turned out at a march and vigil Wednesday night in Dartmouth, N.S., in memory of Jason MacCullough.

The 19-year-old was gunned down in the north end of the city 13 years ago.

Every year since his death, a march and vigil has been held in his honour. His mother said she was happy to see so many people come out.

"It feels great and we're not going anywhere; the more people the merrier," said Carolyn MacCullough.

"Yes, it's growing every year."

The march started at the Boys and Girls Club and, with the help of police escorts, people of all ages began to march, with many carrying glow sticks.

Their final destination was Jason MacCullough Memorial Park, the site where young man died. A moment of silence was observed there.

Among those in the crowd was a woman who used to have her newspapers delivered by MacCullough.

"It just seems that violence has touched our community so much," said Allana Loh. "But when it was such an outstanding young person who is just the perfect young man, it seems to hit the heart much harder."

Afterwards the group marched back to the club for a ceremony where Guyleigh Johnson read a poem she wrote about violence.

"It just will show that we're all here for each other, that we all have each other's back, and that we're willing to take that step forward," Johnson read.

MacCullough's death remains unsolved, and the case is still open.

Police are continuing to ask anyone with information to come forward.
