With one day left to vote electronically in the Halifax Regional Municipality for the upcoming election, the numbers are only slightly above previous advanced voting numbers.

As of 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 47,808 residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality had voted online.

Cathy Mellett, the chief returning officer for the city, said that represents about 16 per cent of those eligible to vote.

Mellett said the advanced online voting rate is about six per cent more than when advanced voting was only available in person on paper.

"We're now only three days out from Saturday, election day," said Mellett. "We've seen strong turnouts over the last two or three days."

Advanced electronic voting in the Halifax Regional Municipality started Oct. 6 and is available until 7 p.m. on Thursday.

"Those who have already made up their mind voted early, which is fine," said Mellett. "There was a bit of a lull but now we're seeing more voting coming on strong as we get closer to the election date."

Municipal elections all across the province will be held on Saturday.
