The board of a Halifax arena that was the scene of a weekend stabbing says it was an isolated incident caused by "a few bad apples."

Emily Fougere, the chair of the Centennial Arena board, told CBC News security video footage of the stabbing had been handed over to Halifax Regional Police.

"I just think a few bad apples arrived at a place that they weren't welcome and they weren't part of the event," she said Monday.

"They weren't part of our community and that's what I'm gathering from it."

Police were called to the Centennial Arena on Vimy Avenue on Saturday night after a security guard working a high school hockey game was stabbed and two others guards injured.

There was a capacity crowd at the game between the Halifax West Warriors and Sackville Kingfishers and security had to turn some people away.

Fougere said security at the arena would be discussed at a board meeting.

"The security involving this had nothing to do with the Centennial Arena in that it was a high school event," she told CBC News.

"We certainly will be discussing how to protect our people that come to the arena and our venue here so we'll see what comes from that."

The security guards were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. They are recovering.

Four people, all under the age of 18, were arrested but released without charges.

Fougere said the arena's board will be speaking to principals at the schools involved about their security during future hockey games.

"The Centennial Arena is community organization. It's been a safe and wonderful, fun place for the kids and the community people," she said.

"We've not had any incidents of any kind like this."
