A tall ship normally moored next to Murphy's On The Water was cut loose and drifted into the harbour Sunday morning, say Halifax police.

Police said a video surveillance shows a small group of people boarding the Silva at about 1:30 a.m., and untying all of its securing ropes except for one.

The surveillance shows the ship moved before finally breaking free around 5:00 am and floating out in to the harbour.

The coast guard was sent to help bring the ship back to its spot.

The Silva suffered minor damage when it broke free.

Police are still investigating.
