RCMP say they seized computer images from Joseph Kenneth Fenwick's home (Dalhousie)A former Big Brother Big Sisters volunteer from Middle Sackville has been charged with distributing child pornography.
RCMP say they seized computer images from 34-year-old Joseph Kenneth Fenwick's home on Fenerty Road in Middle Sackville Friday morning.
"When they went in the residence they seized a significant amount of computer equipment and media storage device. On these devices they found upwards of 8,000 to 10,000 pornographic images of children under 18," said RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae.
MacRae said police do not believe any of the images involve local children.
Fenwick volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax and was one child's mentor for six years, confirmed Carol Goddard the organization's executive director.
"He has been a volunteer with our agency, his engagement with the agency was suspended, and will continue to be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation," she said.
"We absolutely have informed the family and they know the relationship is terminated."
In 2010, Fenwick won a mentoring award from Big Brothers Big Sisters. The program for the awards night describes him as funny, patient, kind and understanding.
Fenwick has been released on bail, on the condition he stay away from computers and from children under 16.
He's due back in Dartmouth court on Nov. 2.
