RCMP are warning motorists that traffic is expected to be slow Saturday on both sides of the Canso Causeway.

A group opposed to an oil exploration project in Cape Breton resumed a roadside protest near the causeway, which links Cape Breton with mainland Nova Scotia.

The protesters are trying to draw attention to a plan by Toronto company PetroWorth Resources Inc. to drill a well near Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton's largest freshwater lake.

Protestors said they feel their three-day protest has been a success, saying they have managed to get the word out to thousands of people and raise the profile of their fight against the proposed drilling.

The protesters handed out leaflets to drivers explaining their worries the well could foul the lake and groundwater.

The plan is to end the protest Saturday evening then return home. However, protestors issued a warning to the province saying they are willing to return to the Causeway and cut off traffic to and from Cape Breton if drilling goes ahead.

The drilling permit allows PetroWorth to commence drilling at any time to begin its exploratory program.
