Fitzgerald drops out of C.B. mayoral race

Owen Fitzgerald is withdrawing his candidacy for mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
He made the announcement Friday morning, saying it was a difficult day but his campaign didn't take off the way he'd hoped.
Fitzgerald is now throwing his support behind Cecil Clark, a former MLA who announced Thursday he was entering the race.
Fitzgerald's departure leaves two candidates in the running to replace long-time mayor John Morgan, who is not reoffering. Clark is running against Rankin MacSween.
Election day is Oct. 20.
