Summer may be over, but the big tourist season for cruise ships in Nova Scotia starts now.

At least 100 ships are headed to Nova Scotia over the next eight weeks.

Disney's Magic Cruise ship was in town today, and 2,500 passengers enjoyed the sights and sounds of Halifax and Peggys Cove.

While Disney has sailed away, there's about to be a wave of boats docking in Halifax harbour.

In August, there were 11 cruise ships in Halifax. September will bring 45, and October will bring 55.

The Port of Halifax has been working hard to focus on the fall season, bringing in nearly a quarter of a million people to the waterfront this season alone.

"We've always been told that our fall foliage is the attraction down here. I believe our cruise season probably did start with the fall foliage," said Cathy McGrail, manager of cruise development at the Port of Halifax.

"I think over the years our tourism partners and our industry partners have worked very hard to develop a lot of product that provide a really great experience for the visitor coming here in the fall."

The busiest cruise day of the year is coming up on Oct. 1, when five cruise ships will stop in Halifax harbour.

That will bring more than 8,000 people to the city in one day.
