There were three structural fires in Nova Scotia this weekend.

The largest was an apartment building fire in Stewiacke. Several families were forced out of their apartments, situated above a laundromat, Saturday night.

Stewiacke fire chief Donald Richardson said no one was injured, but the building is likely a write-off.

"It was a fairly big building – laundromat on the bottom floor and then there was, adjacent to that…an apartment and then there was three more apartments above that," he said.

Richardson said there was heave smoke and water damage throughout.

"A lot of heavy smoke damage in the top ones, water damage…it was a balloon-style building so it didn't take long for the flames to get up into the attic of the apartment."

More than 40 firefighters from several local fire departments helped battle the blaze.

In Kentville, a two-story home on McKittrick Road was badly damaged by fire 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fire investigators are examining what's left of the home. The top floor is badly damaged but deputy fire chief Paul Jackson said the home may be salvageable.

No one was home during the blaze. The Canadian Red Cross is assisting those affected.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Lastly in Bridgewater, a home at 525 LaHave Street caught fire early Sunday morning. A man, woman and child lived on the ground floor of the building but no one was home at the time of the fire.

Bridgewater Police Service is investigating the fire, which they deem suspicious. The Nova Scotia Fire Marshall Office was called to assist with the investigation.

Bridgewater Fire Chief Wayne Thorburne said the second floor was not occupied. He added that there was not a lot of smoke or water damage. He believes the fire started in the basement.
