For motorists who have enjoyed all day free parking around the Halifax Common, that's about to change, as the city is about to install a new type of pay and display machines on Rainnie Drive, Ahern Avenue, Trollop and parts of Cogswell streets.

Halifax Regional Municipality's parking bylaw has to be changed first — that should take place in September — then the new machines will be ordered.

The city expects to have them in place before Christmas.
