A 51-year-old man is dead following an all-terrain vehicle crash in Enfield, N.S., RCMP confirm.
Cpl. Scott MacRae said several factors played into the ATV crash that killed Roger Paul Burns Thursday night.
"At this time we can confirm that alcohol did not play a factor in the crash. There was a sequence of events involving three people on the ATV which resulted in the driver of the ATV doing down an embankment, striking the tree, in which he lost his life and the two children were thrown off the vehicle," said MacRae.
Two children, aged 11 and seven, were also involved in the crash that happened Thursday night around 8:45 p.m.
Police said Burns was taking his ATV for a drive down to a lake when it appears one of the children grabbed the throttle causing the vehicle to lurch forward and drive over an embankment.
The children flew back while Burns was tossed forward.
The 11-year-old was transported to the IWK Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries and the seven-year-old wasn't hurt, said police.
No one on the ATV was wearing a helmet.
Officers are still investigating the crash.
