Police have found the car belonging to a victim of a home invasion in Dartmouth. The 2010 Buick Lacrosse, with Nova Scotia veteran's licence plates, was abandoned on Whynder Lake Road in North Preston.

Const. Holly Smith said forensics investigators are combing the vehicle, looking for a break.

The wife of the 81-year-old victim told CBC she was at home at the time of the incident.

She saw the two suspects walk past her house, and thought they looked like nice, respectable young men. When they passed the house, they turned in, seemingly heading down her neighbour's driveway.

The woman went outside, and sat down on the deck at the back of her house. She heard voices from there, which she assumed were coming from the neighbour's driveway. The neighbours' car was there, but it was locked.

When she went back inside the house, she found her husband sitting on top of the stairs, leading to the basement , visibly shaken. He told her the story of how the pair had knocked on the door, and when he opened it, one of them forced him into the basement at gun point, pushed him to the floor, and stole his car keys.

Her husband is in a great deal of pain today, she said. His children are expected to come over and take him to the doctor later.

Smith said police know a random attack like this would leave anyone shaken.

"Certainly it is very concerning to police. It's concerning to residents all throughout HRM. This is random, the suspects and the victim are not believed to be known to each other," she said.

"It's hard to feel that sense of normalcy if your home has been invaded."

Glen LeBlanc lives in the neighbourhood and said everyone is talking about the incident.

"Well, they're just, just in shock that something like this would happen here," LeBlanc said. "We think it's a real good neighbourhood. Obviously things are changing."
