The Cape Breton teen accused of killing his girlfriend testified today he doesn't know whether he committed the crime or not. He later had to take a break from testifying, after the court proceedings became graphic and very emotional.

The Crown prosecutor made him look at autopsy photos of the girl, who had 104 stab wounds, and a knife broken off in her body.

The 18-year-old became very uncomfortable, and repeatedly closed the book of photos.

Then the Crown asked, "Was she lying on the ground, helpless, because you punched her and knocked her out, grabbed a bunch of knives out of the kitchen drawer, and stabbed her?"

"I'm not saying I did or I didn't, because I don't know," the teen said. "I don't remember."

Then the accused asked if he could take a break, which the judge granted.

He has previously testified that he hardly remembers anything from that day, beginning in the afternoon when he was drinking moonshine and taking pills.

An earlier witness said she heard him say, "I had to do it; she cheated on me."

The names of both the accused and the victim are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
