A Nova Scotia resort devastated by a fire just eight months ago is rising from the ashes.

The loss of the 83-year-old White Point Lodge was a terrible blow to the local community, with more than 100 employees losing their jobs.

The fire broke out during a wedding last November.

While staff scrambled to save the ceremony, the historic inn was destroyed.

General Manager Danny Morton was on duty that night.

"It was a horrible day. It was a horrible day for a lot of people," Morton said.

Last February the owners unveiled the design of a new lodge, which they say will echo the style of the old, while improving accessibility and increasing ocean views.

So far, the foundation has been poured, and the steel trusses are going up.

"Yeah, it's really exciting right now. We're actually seeing the progress. We've been building for a couple of months," Morton told CBC News.

Karen Sears and her family have been coming to White Point for 19 years.

"It's the best place in the world," Sears said, "You come down here, you relax, you forget about everything."

She's thrilled with the progress.

"It makes your heart feel good," she said.

The $4 million rebuild is scheduled to be completed this fall.

The resort is already booked to host the Nova Scotia Music Awards in November.
