A small group of workers with the Elizabeth Fry Society are on strike in Nova Scotia. (CBC)A small group of workers who assist women involved with the criminal justice system in Nova Scotia are on strike.
The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union said for the four women employed by the Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia, the main issue in the dispute is wages.
"We've been in a legal strike position for almost two and a half weeks now and we had hoped in that time period to be able to put enough pressure on the employer to resolve this," said Joan Jessome, president of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union.
The union said the employees are refusing to accept a three-year wage freeze offered by the Elizabeth Fry Society's board of directors.
A provincial conciliator previously declared bargaining in the dispute at an impasse.
