High bacteria levels have forced the Kinsmen beach in Lower Sackville to close .

Two out of three tests showed fecal coliform levels in the water that could makes swimmers sick.

Kinsmen Beach is one of 22 beaches run by the Halifax Regional Municipality, but it's the only one that's closed.

Cameron Deacoff runs the testing program for the city and said the water isn't safe for swimming.

"Basically there's a risk of some potential skin infections or other gastrointestinal infections with diarrhea and things like that," he said.

The city does monitor the water quality, but said the water would actually have to make someone sick for public health to step in to investigate the cause.

The beach will remain closed through the weekend.

The next test results are expected on Tuesday.
