Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating after a body was found on the Mira River.

Police said they responded to the call from someone in the area that they discovered a body near Hillside Road at the Albert Bridge around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, they found the body of a 48-year-old woman in the water, close to the shoreline.

Police said foul play is not suspected, but an autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Halifax.

Police are not releasing the identity of the woman until her family has been notified.
