People who live in Dartmouth's north end are not surprised that a man was badly injured in a crosswalk there Sunday evening.

The 68-year-old man was hit by a car at the corner of Albro Lake and Victoria roads Sunday at about 7 p.m., and he is in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crosswalk is well marked, and has lights pedestrians can activate, to indicate they are crossing.

"It's not the crosswalk itself that's to blame, it's the drivers," said one man who didn't want his name used.

Drivers frequently speed through the intersection, and are inattentive, he said.

The 60-year-old driver was turning left off Albro Lake Road when he allegedly hit the pedestrian Sunday. He was ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. A witness who came on the scene shortly after the accident said the victim was unresponsive as paramedics were working on him.

Chris Johns, a construction worker who uses the intersection often, says he's had as many as three close calls there in a single month, because of driver error.

Police are unable to update the condition of the victim of Sunday's accident.
