He was hoping to win on home soil, but Danny Romo reached a major career milestone while racing in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Saturday night.
Romo, a harness racer from Shubenacadie, N.S., snagged his 3,500th first place finish at the Red Shore Raceway.
The crowd went wild as Romo was given a special plaque to honour the achievement.
Romo, 59, has been racing for 41 years. He told CBC News he never imagined he'd win so many races. He added he now he wants to continue his winning ways and hopes to win 4,000 times, before he retires.
Romo grew up at the racetrack and made a career out of the sport, competing up to three days a week. Over the years, he's broken many bones and even had back surgery.
But there was no lingering in the winner's circle. Shortly after the milestone win, Romo participated in another race.
Later on Saturday night he was set to pack his gear and head to Truro for races on Sunday.
