A 17-year-old boy will be on trial this summer for the second-degree murder of a 17-year-old girl from Glace Bay.
Ten days have been set aside in July for the trial, which the boy elected to be tried by judge alone.
The girl was found murdered in a Williams Street home in Whitney Pier on Dec. 3, 2010.
The accused, then 16, was arrested a short time later and has been at the Cape Breton Correctional Centre since.
He's charged with second-degree murder, uttering threats, assault with a weapon and breaching court orders.
His lawyer will argue for two separate trials, the Crown wants all the charges dealt with in the 10 days set aside.
Neither the boy, nor the girl he is accused of killing, can be identified. Police have never said how the girl died.
The teenagers knew each other, according to police.
Dan MacRury, the chief Crown attorney in Cape Breton, has notified the court that if the accused is found guilty he will ask for an adult sentence.
"This crime was very shocking to the community and certainly very shocking to the families that were involved and certainly in the circumstances, the Crown was of the view that it was in the public interest to seek an adult sentence," MacRury told CBC News.
The boy will be 18 by the time he has his trial in July.
