A group of Halifax regional councillors is asking that a regular council session be held on Tuesday.
Next week's meeting has been cancelled, but Bedford Coun. Tim Outhit said he's one of the councillors who is asking that the meeting be reinstated.
"It came as a bit of a surprise to us when we heard that we weren't going to be meeting. But we were led to believe that there's a very small schedule, light schedule, for Tuesday night, which does happen occasionally," he said Saturday.
"But I think a number of us were sort of hoping that we would come together to get an update on the transit strike situation and also have an opportunity to discuss some other issues that councillors have."
Outhit said council can be called together at any time to talk about the strike.
But, he said, some councillors want to propose changes to rules around parking and taxi regulations to make it easier for residents to get around during the transit strike.
"Several councillors have suggested, and I've supported that suggestion that we could relax some taxi regulations, perhaps relax some regulations around parking just to make it a little bit easier," Outhit said.
He said the request to reinstate the meeting was made Friday night and again Saturday morning to the executive committee, which makes the final decision.
That committee is made up of Mayor Peter Kelly, Deputy Mayor Bill Karsten, Chief Administrative Officer Richard Butts, the solicitor and the municipal clerk.
