Olive (left) and Rodney Henman won more than $1.8 million in the Lotto 6/49. (CBC)An Eastern Passage couple is now more than $1.8 million richer after winning the Lotto 6/49.
Rodney Henman said his wife, Olive, had an unusual reaction when he decided to check his winning ticket at the local drugstore where he'd bought it.
"I said, 'Olive, we got to go down to the drugstore.' She said, 'Oh Rod, what's wrong?" he recounted.
"I said, 'We won the lottery.'"
The 83-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife smiled on Thursday as they held a large cheque from the Atlantic Lottery Corporation for $1,845,845.
"It hasn't really struck yet," said Olive Henman.
"We're quite happy."
The couple, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in June, have four children and 11 grandchildren. Many of them were at Thursday's cheque presentation.
"I just like the new title of heiress," said one of their daughters.
"That's my thrill."
Rodney Henman said the couple hasn't figured what to do with their winnings, beyond tucking some money away for their grandchildren's education.
"As far as we got was the equipment for the kitchen, which is a good idea," he said.
"My wife is an excellent cook and I want to give her the best gear to work with."
