Springhill teen accused of murdering mother

Tracey Ann Rudderham was found dead early Monday. (contributed to Facebook)An 18-year-old man in Springhill, N.S., has been charged with second-degree murder of his mother, Tracey Ann Rudderham.
Zachary Quinn Brake stood silently as the charge was read out Tuesday in Amherst provincial court.
He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Nov. 7.
Brake is accused of killing 37-year-old Rudderham, who was found dead early Monday in the home they shared in Springhill.
RCMP have not said how she died.
Sgt. Brigdit Leger, an RCMP spokeswoman, said officers went to the home on Mechanic Street after Brake went to the police station.
"This was not a random act," Leger said Tuesday.
Crown attorney Bruce Baxter confirmed that Rudderham was Brake's mother.
Baxter requested that Brake be held at the Cumberland Correctional Facility. He said Rudderham has a family member at another jail and he wanted to avoid any possible conflict.
Springhill police and RCMP continue to investigate Rudderham's death. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
A conviction for second-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no eligibility for parole for at least 10 years.
