Gas prices went up in Nova Scotia Friday morning, even more than expected.

CBC News predicted on Thursday there would be a jump of four cents per litre in Halifax, but prices went even higher — up 5.4 cents a litre.

Regular gas in Halifax now costs drivers $1.31 per litre. Diesel went up by 5.4 cents, to $1.28.

Prices are higher outside the city.

In Sydney, gas prices went up to $1.329.

A service station owner in Sydney said people are not happy with the latest increase in gas and diesel prices.

Tom Burke said his customers were already upset with the price of fuel.

"A lot of the customers come in and say 'What are you doing? Aren't you making enough profit?' and we say 'Well, there's no profit in gas as it is.' There's nothing we can do about it. They just have to live with it."

Burke said he thinks the price should stay the same for longer than one week at a time, to give people more stability.

"I think they should pick a price and stick to it," said Burke. "Let people know what they have to pay at the pump, and not be every week up and down and up and down - they don't know what's going on."
