The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board is looking at implementing a dress code for teachers in the classroom and other staff members.

It's part of an ongoing review of its policies, including cell phone usage and texting, as well as how to deal with head lice in schools.

Charles Sheppard, the board's co-ordinator of school services, said there have been complaints about the appearance of teachers, but wouldn't be specific.

"[The code] really presents how to dress appropriately while working in the school system and specifically it would give, I guess, ideas about dress and what decorum we are looking for in our teachers and non teaching staff and how to dress properly," he told CBC News on Monday.

At least some students at Sydney Academy don't see any problems with what their teachers are wearing.

"All of our teachers dress fine and they are comfortable in their clothes," Edward MacKinnon said.

"I don't think they want to wear dress pants and dress shirts and vests or whatever the dress code may be. They just want to be comfortable teaching."

Josh Feltmate agreed with that assessment, saying: "They dress all right, they usually dress really nice."

One board official said they don't want every day to be casual Friday for staff members.
