Another care unit at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor has been closed because more patients have become ill with influenza-like symptoms.

Unit 200 — an acute care unit — has been closed as some patients and a resident are ill with Influenza A.

Capital Health spokesperson John Gillis said the measure had been taken to limit the number of people coming and going who could potentially spread the virus.

"There are two [cases] in that unit. Last Friday, we introduced visitor restrictions at unit 500 which is a transitional care unit, and I believe there are a total of five patients there who had either confirmed or suspected flu. There are also visitor restrictions on the Haliburton Place, which is a long term care facility attached to the hospital. I believe there's one flu case in that facility," Gillis said Wednesday.

Common symptoms of the flu include a fever and/or cough with one or more of the following symptoms: unusual tiredness, headaches, muscle or joint aches and sore throat.

Anyone who has been ill should stay away from the hospital for at least three days after their symptoms end, as health officials say the virus can still be transmitted during that time.
