Canada is lone bidder for 2015 Women's World Cup

Christine Sinclair and Team Canada look like a good bet to be the host squad for the 2015 Women's World Cup of Soccer. (Associated Press)FIFA says Zimbabwe has withdrawn its bid to host the Women's World Cup in 2015, leaving Canada as the only candidate.
Canada's bid must be evaluated and approved by the FIFA executive meeting when it meets on Wednesday and Thursday.
Canadian sports minister Gary Lunn met with FIFA President Sepp Blatter on Monday to promote his country's bid.
If successful, Canada also would stage the Women's Under-20 World Cup in 2014 as a test event.
"[Canada] has not been awarded the FIFA Women's World Cup [for] 2015," stated Peter Montopoli, general secretary for the Canadian Soccer Association.
He added that "FIFA has reiterated that each bid stands on its own merit and we will continue to respect the process as established by FIFA and will attend the FIFA Media Conference as planned on Thursday, March 3 for the decision of the FIFA Executive Committee."
Canada previously hosted the men's U20 World Cup in 2007.
Its women's team also has qualified for the 16-team 2011 World Cup kicking off on June 26 in Germany.
