A Dartmouth, N.S., man is facing multiple charges related to child pornography and the sexual exploitation of two children he knows.

The 45-year-old man, who cannot be named, faces charges of possessing, producing and distributing child pornography; sexual assault; and sexual interference.

He appeared in provincial court in Dartmouth Friday.

The charges are the result of an investigation by Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP's integrated internet child exploitation unit.

Police executed a search warrant early Friday at a home on Trinity Avenue in Dartmouth and arrested the man on the premises.

They also seized computer equipment from the property.

Police allege that through the course of their investigation, they came across evidence indicating the man arrested had touched a child who is known to him in a sexual manner.

Investigators allege some of the pornographic images found at the home are of this child and of another child who is also known to the accused.
