Dalhousie's board of governors has approved a master plan to revamp the university.

The plan, approved Monday, recommends several new buildings and a redesign of a major thoroughfare.

The various projects would cost $600 million over 10 years. They include:

  • Two 16-storey towers for Tupper medical building.
  • Five-storey IDEA building for downtown Halifax.
  • Pedestrian zone and bikeway on north side of University Avenue.

University officials say the number of students continues to grow, and they want to be prepared.

They call the master plan a vision for the school, not a list of approved projects. They said any project would have to be approved by the board.
