Halifax Regional Police say there was a seventh swarming in the city centre over the Labour Day weekend.

A man and woman told police they were attacked Saturday night while walking near Agricola and Harris streets.

Six or seven males approached, police said. One of them asked the man a question, and when the woman replied, the group began beating him. The attackers turned on the woman when she tried to intervene.

Both victims went to the hospital to have their injuries treated.

Police said they only learned of the assault on Wednesday night. Someone reported the attack, and investigators tracked down the couple.

The man and woman couldn't provide a detailed description of their attackers, but said they were all black males.

Police believe this attack is connected to six similar swarmings in the area between Friday and Monday night.

In every one of those cases, a group of attackers approached their victims by asking for a cigarette or light, then beat their prey.

Some of the victims were robbed.

One of those assaults happened Saturday at 8:43 p.m. on Maitland Street and Divas Lane, a few blocks from where the man and woman said they were attacked.
