Nova Scotians flocked to the beach as temperatures soared Tuesday. (CBC) Lifeguards are back at three popular provincial beaches, as Nova Scotia continues to bake in the hot sun.
The lifeguarding season at Rainbow Haven, Melmerby and Mira Gut beaches officially ended on Sunday. But because of the searing heat, the lifeguards are back to supervise swimmers until Thursday.
"These are three of the most popular beaches and we anticipate a number of visitors over the next few days," Paul D'Eon, director of the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service, said in a statement.
Environment Canada says mainland Nova Scotia can expect highs near 32 and 33 degrees over the next couple of days, though it should be somewhat cooler along the coast.
On Tuesday, the Halifax Regional Municipality put lifeguards back at four of its beaches in Halifax and Dartmouth.
The Bedford outdoor swimming pool is also open.
Provincial lifeguards will be at Aylesford Lake Beach, Lake Milo Boat Club and Lawrencetown Beach until Monday. They will return to Lawrencetown Beach for the Sept. 11 and Sept. 18 weekends.
