The tiny village of Meat Cove, N.S., is no longer cut off from the rest of the province, officials say.

The community of 35 residences on the northern tip of Cape Breton Island was left stranded after heavy rains late Saturday washed out the only road leading to and from the village.

Some sections of the road have now been repaired enough for all-terrain vehicles to traverse, said George Muise of the Emergency Management Office.

"We do actually have a link along the roadway today that we're able to get things in and out of here to the community centre," he said Thursday afternoon.

Muise said the roadwork is coming along well and a temporary bridge could be in place within days.

Wind and heavy rains hit Meat Cove on Thursday, but they were not as bad as the storm that washed out roadways, cars and building last weekend.
