Shots were fired outside Barry's Freshmart in New Germany, N.S. (CBC) Two people have been shot in the parking lot of a grocery store in New Germany, N.S.
Shots were fired outside Barry's Freshmart, about 120 kilometres west of Halifax, just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A man shot a woman and then turned the gun on himself, a store employee told CBC News. Police have not confirmed this account.
"He got out of his vehicle, run to her vehicle, smashed the window out of her vehicle... and then shot her, and then he shot himself and he dropped to the ground," said Bonnie Demone, an eyewitness who lives nearby.
The store employee said the couple is known in the community and had recently separated.
Witnesses say the woman works as a mail deliverer and the man is a Christmas tree farmer. They are reported to have a 21-year-old son.
Police say both people have been taken to hospital in Halifax and are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
